STEEPING LEADS TO DRINKING!

Preparing an excellent cup of tea is ritualistic & very personal. Once you’ve mastered the steps to brewing your perfect TEA HAPPENZ ™cup, you will insist on making it the same way every time!

SUGGESTIONS TO BEST PREPARE YOUR LOOSE LEAF TEA!

NOTE: Keep scrolling for Infusers, Filters & Strainers Oh My!

YOUR STEEPING GUIDE

Start by preheating  your teapot with hot water.

  1. Tea begins with the water as it brings tea to its full potential. Fresh water yields a better cup. We recommend using filtered, spring or bottled water.
  2. Pour 1 cup (250mL) of hot water over one teaspoon of your premium TEA HAPPENZ quality loose leaf tea.
  3. Wait the recommended steep time and remove your filter, infuser or strainer.

Wait, What?

Not ALL 'boiled' water is the same.  It's true.  There are some important subtleties in water temperature that can maximize the flavour of your leaves:

  • Black tea yields better flavour if the water used to brew the tea is brought to a full rolling boil.  Let steep 3 to 5 minutes.
  • Green tea has a better flavour if the water used to brew the tea is brought to just before the boil begins. Let steep 1 to 3 minutes.
  • Herbal infusions have a better flavour and aroma if the water used to infuse the leaves is brought to a full rolling boil. Let steep 7 to 10 minutes. Y

*You can't really over steep herbal infusions.

Smile. Sip. Enjoy the nuances, complexity and character!

  • When heating water, the microwave will do in a pinch, but it is not recommended for optimal tea steeping results. We recommend a proper tea kettle.
  • Moisten your infuser with a bit of hot water first.  Then add the rest of your water.  This will allow the loose leaf tea leaves to be their most flavourful.
  • Be sure to pour the boiling water over the tea leaves, rather than adding the leaves to a cup or pot that already has hot water in it.
  • Ensure the tea infuser is fully submerged beneath the water while steeping. This will allow the leaves to properly expand and open, releasing their full flavour.
  • Remove the infuser or tea bag as soon as steeping is finished, in order to prevent over-steeping.
  • If using tea filters, do not squeeze them during the steeping process, as this can also lead to bitterness.
  • Before steeping, you may wish to preheat your teapot. This step helps to prevent your teapot from cracking due to the sudden change in temperature. Simply pour some of the heated water into the empty teapot and swirl it around, allowing it to warm the pot. Then, discard the water.

How Many Times Can I STEEP The SAME Loose Leaf SERVING?

  • The ADVANTAGE OF HIGH QUALITY PREMIUM LOOSE LEAF TEA is that it can be STEEPED MORE THAN ONCE!  Try it 2-3 times, in order to determine how many times you can steep one serving of loose leaf tea.  We suggest that you STEEP 'longer' each time you are 'RE-STEEPING' your initial serving.  Example, double the steeping time!
  • You should only 'RE-STEEP' within 24 hours of the first STEEPING.
  • This will not only provide you with EVEN MORE of our PREMIUM LOOSE LEAF TEA, it will also lower the cost per serving/cup!

Learning to Make it Your Way

  • As you gain experience with steeping tea, you will learn that you have unique preferences regarding the quantity of tea leaves, water temperature, steeping times, and even steeping tools (ie: tea filter, infuser, strainer).
  • We provide the above instructions only to offer some guidance as you venture down your personal road to learning just how you like to prepare and drink our premium tea!
  • GOOD LUCK.  SMILE. SIP. ENJOY!

Loose Leaf Tea also makes GREAT Loose Leaf ICED TEA!

Traditional:

Brew tea hot using the recommendations above. Place tea into the fridge and wait until iced cold and delicious.

Cold Brew:

Pour 6 cups of cold water 8-9 teaspoons of our premium loose leaf tea .

Cover and refrigerate for 8-12 hours. To serve, pour over ice.

Quick Brew:

Brew tea hot using the recommendations above.  However, double the loose leaf tea quantity x the  number of cups you are brewing.  For example, 2 cups of water = 4 teaspoons of loose leaf tea.

Pour over into a serving glass filled with fresh ice.

INFUSERS, FILTERS AND STRAINERS, OH MY!

Tea Infuser:

  • A Tea Infuser keeps any tea leaves from floating freely in your cup while you drink.
  • It also lets you stop steeping tea after a specified time. This keeps your tea from getting bitter.
  • It's usually a 'small strainer type infuser' that you place directly in your cup or teapot. Our English Muffin infuser works great for 1-2 cups.
  • Keep your tea covered while it is steeping in order to retain aroma/flavour!

Disposable Tea Filter:

  • These are disposable 'tea bags' that you fill yourself.  Just fill it and drop it in!
  • They are also great for taking your favourite TEA HAPPENZ blend on the GO!
  • Our Tea Brew #2 Tea Filters are designed for steeping 1-3 teaspoons of loose leaf tea at a time (1-3 cups).
  •  Great news: They are Bio-degradable and compostable!
  • Keep your tea covered while it is steeping in order to retain aroma/flavour!

Tea Strainer:

  • Tea Strainers are usually 'basket type infusers' that you place directly in your cup or teapot.
  • Our Tea Strainer works great for 2-3 cups.  It is portable and comes with it's own lid so that you can keep your tea covered while it is steeping in order to retain aroma/flavour!
